Good Morning OBX Crew! Labor Day week and the calendar is stacked. The Ocracoke Seafood Festival is Saturday, Flatland Cavalry plays Live From OBX in Manteo on Sunday, and the WRV Outer Banks Pro is still running at Jennette's Pier. Monday morning there's a Lighthouse 5K down in Buxton if you want to earn your cookout. Let's get into it! Every Single PlacardI have a problem at museums. I read everything. The first time we went to the Wright Brothers Memorial, I could have stayed all day. Every board, every placard, every little caption under a photo. And then I wanted to go home and look up the parts they didn't cover. My wife does not share this particular affliction, which is fair, because standing next to someone reading a wall for eleven minutes is not most people's idea of a vacation. So I've made peace with doing the history stuff on my own. She gets the beach, I get the placards, everybody wins. The thing about the OBX is that there's so much of it. First flight, the Lost Colony, the lifesaving stations, the shipwrecks, the villages that have been here longer than most of the country. I've barely scratched it. If you know a spot I should dig into, hit reply, because I will absolutely go read every sign there. Restaurant Spotlight Poor Richard's Sandwich ShopManteo Waterfront Poor Richard's has been on the Manteo waterfront since 1984 and the inside is built to feel like a ship's cabin, which is a nice touch for a sandwich shop. You walk up a sloping ramp and down a narrow wood-paneled hall to order at the counter. Get the Reuben. Then take it out to the back porch, which looks over the town boardwalk and the docks, with the Elizabeth II sitting across the water. It's the best cheap lunch view in Manteo. They also run karaoke Wednesdays, trivia Thursdays, and live music most weekends, so it turns into a whole different place at night. Convenient timing too, since Manteo First Friday is this week. Contribute to the OBXFrom OBX is 100% free, independently owned, and it's just me running it. If you've gotten value from it, your support helps me keep it going. Thanks! -Ryan, From OBX Those Buttons Down There Actually Work NowQuick bit of housekeeping. See the three buttons at the bottom of this email? Subscribe, Listen on the Beach, and Partner. I found out today that they haven't been going anywhere this whole time. That's fixed. Listen on the Beach is a Spotify playlist I keep for exactly what it sounds like, sitting on the sand doing nothing in particular. It could use some help. Hit reply and tell me the one song that sounds like the OBX to you and I'll add it. I'd rather build this thing out of your picks than just mine. And if you run a business out here and want to get in front of this list, that Partner button is for you. Same if you know somebody who should be on my radar.
