America turns 250 this Saturday, and the OBX is not playing around. The 4th falls on a weekend this year, which means a full week of parades, fish fries, fireworks up and down the barrier islands, live music, and one very memorable golf cart parade in Hatteras on Thursday. This is the one. Still Gets Me Every TimeI've been thinking about what the Fourth actually means to me. It always comes back to parades. Not the big televised ones. The small-town ones where someone's on a long horned bull carrying a flag at his side side and the whole block comes out to cheer. This happened last week for us and it was wild! There's just something about that moment where everyone shows up. For an hour, people set everything else down and clap for the same kid throwing candy off a flatbed. It's corny and I love it. 250 years is a long time but there's something about this particular Fourth that feels like a good one to be here for. The OBX does the parade thing right. Duck has a proper parade on Friday morning, and Hatteras does a golf cart parade Thursday that you won't want to miss. Go watch one if you're around. The Report| Conditions |

Contribute to the OBXFrom OBX is 100% free, independently owned, and it's just me running it. If you've gotten value from it, your support helps me keep it going. Thanks! -Ryan, From OBX Local Spotlight Miss Oregon Inlet II — 4th of July Sunset & Fireworks CruiseHave you ever been on a boat that is doing fireworks? This year we went on a Disney Cruise and my children loved watching the fireworks right from the deck! Thankfully on the OBX, you don't have to go far from home to get the same experience.
So instead of standing in a parking lot to watch the fireworks this year, watch them from the water. The Miss Oregon Inlet II is running a 4th of July Sunset & Fireworks Cruise out of Nags Head on Saturday evening. You board, head out on the sound, and let the fireworks do their thing while someone else drives the boat. Way better than fighting the traffic home and your kids, and yourself, will love it! Get on the boat |
