Good Morning OBX Crew! Duck is doing Christmas in July at Town Park Tuesday and Wednesday, the All-American Wing Fling hits Manteo on Saturday, and there's a full moon Wednesday morning. Last full week of July, so let's make it count. Let's get into it! Snow in MarchI want to tell you about my first time on the OBX, because it's the trip that started all of this. We rented a house in Nags Head. We pulled in and parked the car underneath the house, which sounds like nothing, but I had never seen that before and I could not get over it. I remember standing there thinking there was a lot more to this place than I understood. I had to see more. The next morning we drove down the coast, checked out a few lighthouses, and walked the beach. I was studying for the MCAT at the time and I was stressed out of my mind, but somehow being out there still felt calm. That's the part that stuck with me. Nothing about my life was peaceful that month and the OBX made it feel like it was. I had no idea what the food was going to be like. We found Mulligans, Surfin' Spoon, and Duck Donuts, which was my very first Duck Donut. Then it snowed on us. In March. I had literally asked my dad a few days earlier whether it ever snows in North Carolina and he told me no, almost never. Snow was coming down hard on us on the beach and I could not stop laughing about it. Somehow that made the whole trip better. That was it for me. We started looking at homes out here not long after, and we've been sold on the OBX ever since. Restaurant Spotlight Kitty Hawk Kites Hang GlidingJockey's Ridge State Park, Nags Head This is the one thing I am going to be doing in September as long as they are still open. I've seen it before but had to do a little research to learn more about them. Kitty Hawk Kites has been teaching people to hang glide off the dunes at Jockey's Ridge since 1974, and they've put over 300,000 people in the air. Beginner dune lessons start at $149 and you actually fly on your first lesson, which is wild. The sand makes for a soft landing and the instructors walk you through everything, so you don't need any experience. They also run a tandem flight out of Jarvisburg that tows you up to 2,000 feet if you want to go bigger. Heads up, they have $5 off per person for Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday bookings with code OBXTW5. Go Fly |

Contribute to the OBXFrom OBX is 100% free, independently owned, and it's just me running it. If you've gotten value from it, your support helps me keep it going. Thanks! -Ryan, From OBX Crazy WeekThis last week was a rough one for my two kids and us getting sick and we could really use a vacation. Thankfully we booked our flights to the Outer Banks for September 27th and we will be there through October 2nd! We couldn't be more excited. If you are going to be out there during that time, give me a holler. Always looking forward to connecting with you all as much as possible. Also, if you have any recommendations, send them my way because we are going to be cramming our week full of things to do. This is the first time we won't really be renovating our house in Kill Devil Hills and we couldn't be more excited to just explore a bit more!
