The Outer Banks Pirate Festival is taking over Kitty Hawk Kites in Nags Head Wednesday and Thursday, the Pirate's Cove Billfish Tournament is still running out of Manteo, and there's a new moon Wednesday afternoon, which means dark skies and some of the best stargazing you'll get all month. Let's get into it! Help Me Find This CakeI need to put out an APB this week. There's this layered chocolate cake that keeps showing up in my social feeds, and everyone who talks about it talks about it like it changed their life. The catch is that I've also heard the gas station that sold it went out of business, which would be a genuinely tragic development for cake. So I'm asking you. Is that true? Did the place actually close? Have you had this cake, and was it as good as people say? And if it's still out there somewhere, who do I need to call? Hit reply and tell me what you know. If somebody can point me in the right direction, I will report back and we will all know where to find it. Restaurant Spotlight TRiO Restaurant & Market3708 N Croatan Hwy, Kitty Hawk TRiO is wine shop, cheese counter, beer bar, and restaurant all under one roof, which sounds like it should be a mess and somehow isn't. You can grab a bottle to take back to the house or sit down and make a whole night of it.
What caught my eye this week is their Odyssey wine tasting. They walk you through the actual wines from the regions in Homer's Odyssey, following Odysseus from Troy back to Ithaca, and the kitchen puts out small plates to match each stop.
